Your House Is a System

We all understand that our car is made up of interacting components – when one component fails, it affects the performance of the whole vehicle. But, did you know that the same goes for your house?

The components of your house—the insulation, HVAC systems, the thermal envelope, appliances and lighting—all contribute to your comfort, health and safety and energy efficiency of the home. If one system has a problem, it impacts the other systems’ ability to function properly. Rather than focusing on a single problem, like leaky windows, the “house-as-a-system” approach allows us to look at how improvements throughout your home work together to give you the most cost effective results.

Comfort Engineered Systems, Inc. recommends a few simple things you can do to help in the overall energy efficiency of your home.

  • Change Your Air Filter Regularly:

A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make your system work harder to keep you warm or cool – wasting energy. We offer a wide variety of filters and change out plans.

  • Tune Up Your Hvac Equipment Yearly:

We are an approved contractor to implement CLECO and Entergy’s energy efficiency programs state wide. Comfort Engineered Systems has participated in the EnergySmart NOLA program since its inception, and are one of the only air conditioning contractors still active today. There are rebates available to homeowners for implementing these programs. In addition we offer great pricing on yearly maintenance agreements.

  • Install A Programmable Thermostat:

A programmable thermostat is perfect for people who are away from home during a set time, day or night. Proper use of a programmable thermostat can save an average of $200 every year in energy costs.

  • Seal Your Duct Work:

The duct system in your home is critical in saving energy. As much as 30% of our air can be lost into the attic due to leaky duct work. Sealing and insulating duct system can improve the efficiency of your HVAC system, resulting in reduced energy waste.

  • Consider Changing To Energy Star Certified Heating And Cooling Equipment:

If your HVAC system is more than 10 years old or not keeping your home comfortable, Comfort Engineered Systems can evaluate it. If it is underperforming consider replacing it with an ENERGY STAR rated unit. This, along with proper installation from our knowledgeable install team, will be a winning combination for energy savings.

  • Adding Insulation:

Many homes built before the 1980’s are poorly insulated. As your Home Performance contractor, Comfort Engineered Systems can check insulation levels in the walls, floors and attic space of your home.
