Description & Equipment
The residents of this fine 1900 square foot house had two older systems totaling five tons of air conditioning. Since they were remodeling, the homeowner decided to replace some of the old equipment. By only replacing the existing 2 furnaces, we were able to free up valuable closet space and add precious attic space by replacing both units with Carrier’s newly designed, 33” long 2-speed furnace (Model #58CTA-090-116), a matching evaporator coil (Model #CE3AXA048), and Carrier’s state-of-the-art Thermidistat, which is a specialty thermostat with added humidity control. Because we used an existing 3-ton condensing unit and chose the 2-speed furnace, the homeowners were able to select a 3-ton fan speed and still have fan speed reduction for the dehumidification sequence. This homeowner was able to maintain year round indoor comfort, even with dropping their overall cooling capability from 5-tons to 3-tons.
The pictures below allow you to see the condition of one of the old units - Could this be in your house? Because we externally wrap all our ductwork, there is no internal insulation to catch dust, mold or mildew. Our experienced installers know the benefits of assuring a tight fit when making ductwork connections.

Description & Equipment
The homeowner of this 100-year old uptown house installed two Carrier 38TDB 048 Model 4-ton PURON 2-speed Condensing Units. Downstairs, the homeowner chose a coordinating Carrier 58UXV100 variable speed furnace and a Carrier CK5BXA048 box coil that fits perfectly on top of the furnace.
Upstairs he installed a Carrier FV005 variable speed fan coil with 12KW electric heat.
A Carrier Thermidistat controls the environments upstairs and downstairs. This combination thermostat and humidity control provides maximum comfort while saving the homeowner money on their utility bills - A nice combination.
For maximum filtration and air quality, we installed two Carrier MECH2000 4" mechanical filter packages, with filters designed to last over a year.
To further enhance the use of the filters, we installed two Sanuvox R1500X UV Air Purifiers. These air purifiers kill bacteria, mold, fungus, dust mites, and other airborne viruses. This gives the homeowner added peace of mind knowing the quality of his indoor air is greatly improved.
Another benefit to the homeowner is that these systems are so quiet, the homeowner doesn’t even know if the equipment is running or not - another quality feature of the Carrier equipment!

Description & Equipment
The downstairs unit was an old gas heat package unit. With today’s natural gas prices rising, we decided to install Carrier’s new package unit 48JZ PURON duel fuel heat pump. This way they are able to get the efficiency of the heat pump while using natural gas as the emergency heat fuel. This system operates off of Carrier’s Thermidistat, which allows the owner to maximize de-humidification while using the continuous fan mode.
The upstairs required a straight heat pump set up. We installed the Carrier 38YDB PURON two-stage heat pump condensing unit and the NEW Infinity series fan coil with Carrier’s 20kw Intelligent heat compatible electric heat strips. The system is controlled by Carrier’s INFINITY user interface. This is the new term for precise humidity control, unparalleled fan operation, incredible ease in setting up time of day schedules, diagnostics and much, much more. All this from a user interface located right in your living room.
Most thermostats tell you when the system has run long enough to change the filter. The INFINITY system actually tells you when the filter is dirty. It says change the filter! You change the filter. If there is a problem it actually gives you the dealers’ number and tells you to call the dealer. So once again we have integrated Ideal Humidity technology with Comfort Heat technology, continuous fan operation all rolled up into a money saving package.
Our customers tell us within a short time they feel the difference.

Description & Equipment
We were contracted to be involved in this home from start to finish. We specified and were instrumental in making sure the envelope of the home was installed with an approved vapor barrier. The standard house wraps used today are not approved as a vapor barrier. We specified a Dow product that would provide this barrier. Dow’s Super Tuff R was installed over the plywood sheathing. All joints were sealed and taped. As a final piece to the envelope inspection process, we inspected and certified the sealing of the home against costly air leaks during the insulation process.
During the design phase, we picked out grills that were aesthetic to the design of the home and were engineered to perform in the specific locations we picked. This was all done with sound and comfort leading our design criteria. This 3,800 sq. ft. home has operated at less than $180.00 a month. The owner is very pleased to have unmatched Comfort, Ideal Humidity Technology, Comfort Heat Technology and PURON refrigerant that does not pollute the air, all rolled up into a system that meets the Energy Star standard.
This home has taken advantage of Carrier’s Comfort zone II technology, which when used in conjunction with Carrier FV series fan coil provide Ideal Humidity control. In addition, we provided the owner with Carrier’s 38YDB PURON two-stage heat pump condensing unit. The final product we added was Sanuvox’s R3500x UV air purifier. This product compliments the Carrier EZ Flex filtration package to give the homeowner piece of mind.
As a final test, we had this home certified using the PAN test which pressurizes the home and simulates an 80 MPH wind on the exterior of the home The home tested to .19 air changes per hour (ACH). This ACH level is excellent. In addition ductwork was test for air leaks and easily complied with the California and Florida duct standard. This standard allows for a maximum total duct leakage of 5% of the total system CFM’s. In all aspects, the home hit it’s mark.

Task: To design a system that will operate this gorgeous 14,400 sq. ft. home with the smallest utility bill possible.
Result: This customer understood that Comfort Engineered Systems, Inc.’s team of professionals offered value. We were able to tackle some of the unique design problems and offer solutions that could still provide energy efficiencies.
Description & Equipment:
This beautiful 14,400 sq. ft. home, overlooking Lake Pontchartrain, had some special design issues. A first design criterion was a 20 ft tall waterfall in the middle of the home and a 5,000 gallon two story aquarium. In addition, we had to deal with an amazing, 4story atrium.
We used several of our proven designs to handle these issues. There are a total of seven Carrier/ClimateMaster Genisis & Ultra Classic series water source heat pumps with variable speed blower assemblies and CXM electronic heat pump control systems totaling 25 tons of air conditioning. All the water source heat pumps run off of a common condenser loop, which is cooled by a Cooling Tower Systems (CTS) water tower. All of the systems are controlled by Carrier’s Comfort Zone II zoning system. This will allow the homeowner to take advantage of Carrier’s Ideal Humidity technology and Comfort Heat Technology. We are using the Ultra Classic series unit to help handle the 1,600 cfm’s of outside air that will be needed, if all the kitchen vent hoods, indoor Jacuzzi and sauna are being used. It is vital to bring in fresh air into the modern day home. With today’s huge kitchen hoods it becomes a challenge to properly design for the fresh air needed.
These Genisis series water source heat pump systems in August during our peak heat load conditions will still produce cooling at an incredible 14.0 + EER. This is not SEER but EER, which has a much higher value then SEER, which is seasonally adjusted. In addition we are operating the water tower fan and the condenser water pump with G.E./Fuji inverters. This will further reduce the operating costs.
When Comfort Engineered Systems is asked to be a partner in a new home’s construction we bring along a wealth of information and building techniques for today’s homes. As with other new homes we were an important part of the exterior envelope design and the type of insulation and the installation of the insulation. This will help the owner achieve their desired results. It will also assure the owner that they will be comfortable and provided with the best possible environment for their family while performing at the lowest possible utility cost.
